Each and everyone of us, in some way or another, is fighting their own personal battles with themselves — others more so than everyone else. But, no matter what personal struggles you are facing today, you can be your own hero to ultimately save yourself from all of your worries. Taking small steps will help you realize how strong you truly are.
Being Your Own Hero 101:
Acknowledgement and acceptance
Knowing you are struggling and accepting that is the first step. Acknowledging your weaknesses and realizing your mistakes will lead to a better understanding of yourself to help you make better choices in the future.
Be kind to yourself.
As the saying goes, we are our own worst critics. Nobody criticizes us more than we criticize ourselves because in a way, this kind of thinking can challenge us to improve. Yet at the same time, this can also cause us to spiral down to self-negatively. Remember how you need self-love and self-compassion, for being your own hero means being your own personal cheerleader too!
Stop waiting & take control.
Movies and fairy tales led us to believe that someday our Happily Ever After will come to save our story. And so we wait and we let life move on, holding on to false hopes and potentials to better our situations. But, why wait for someone or something when you can take control, and go for it yourself? You owe it to yourself to try.
Follow through.
After taking control comes taking action. Challenges will come toward you and facing them is a huge leap from waiting for them to pass you by. Don’t talk yourself out of it and give Nike a chance to help you grow. Just do it!
Know when it’s time to ask for help.
Being your own hero also means having the courage to help yourself by asking others for help. Heroes need help and support too. So when things get too tough for you to handle, know that there is no shame in asking for help. Prioritizing self-care is important so, for you, we compiled a list of mental health services in the Philippines right here.
Your experiences can encourage positive conversations. Our ongoing campaign, #MayKwentoAko serves as a safe space for productive discussions. If you have your own hero stories to tell, you may share them with us below.
